Wheaton North football shuts out Neuqua, clinches first playoff berth since 2013

FOOTBALL

Wheaton North

Sam Singleton ran for 138 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries, and the Falcons shut out Neuqua Valley 23-0 on Oct. 6 to clinch their first playoff appearance since 2013. Michael Jarosz added a 1-yard touchdown for Wheaton North (6-1, 5-1 DuPage Valley Conference), which plays at Naperville Central this week in a matchup of DVC leaders.

Wheaton Warrenville South

Ryan Young ran for 211 yards and four touchdowns, and the Tigers (1-6, 1-6 DVC) rolled past Metea Valley 44-0 on Oct. 6 for their first win of the season. Ryan Wilhelm added a 2-yard touchdown for the Tigers.

Glenbard South

Jack Crouch ran in a 1-yard touchdown and found Bryan Hahoney for a 6-yard score, and the Raiders (5-2, 3-0 Metro Suburban Blue) became playoff-eligible by beating St. Edward 16-13 on Oct. 6 for their fifth straight win.

BOYS GOLF

St. Francis

Luke Armbrust fired a 69 to earn medalist honors for the sectional champion Spartans at the Class 2A Lemont Sectional on Oct. 9. Ryan Keefe shot a 75, Ben Bougadis a 76 and Nick Armbrust a 78 for St. Francis, whose 298 edged Lemont's 301.

GIRLS GOLF

Wheaton Warrenville South

Sarah Hauenstein shot a 73, three shots back of the lead, to qualify for state for the Tigers at the Class 2A Wheaton Academy Sectional. Teammate Hadley Moritz is also returning to state after shooting a 76.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Glenbard West

Katelynne Hart finished the 3-mile course in 16 minutes, 15.9 seconds, easily taking the individual title at Naperville North's Twilight Invitational on Oct. 4. Teammate Lindsey Payne was fourth in 16:53.8 for Glenbard West, fifth in the team standings. Katie Hohe was 12th for the Hilltoppers (17:19.2)

Wheaton Warrenville South

The Tigers took fourth at Naperville North's Twilight Invitational on Oct. 6. Samantha Poglitsch (17:49.9) and Maria Rucoba (17:50.8) took 19th and 20th, respectively, to pace Wheaton. Sarah Kulkarni was 23rd in 17:55.0 and Haley Ansiel 29th in 18:04.2.

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Glenbard West

The Hilltoppers scored 97 points to finish behind just Downers Grove North (56) and Neuqua Valley (57) at the Twilight Invitational. Rory Cavan finished fourth in 14:41.7 to pace Glenbard West. Stephen Moody was seventh in 14:49.5 and Will O'Brien 19th in 15:03.5.

Cooper Reif made five saves, Lonnie Minnitti and Noah VanDenend two saves for the Raiders in a 4-0 loss to Elgin.

VOLLEYBALL

Glenbard West

Ananda Patterson had six kills and three blocks for the Hilltoppers (20-7, 4-1) in a 25-13, 25-13 win over Oak Park-River Forest on Oct. 10. Katie Ryan added four aces and six digs, Sophie Alles six digs, Virginia Curtis four kills, Ellory Graff three kills, Nina Crawford three kills and Kaitlyn Dumerer 19 assists.

Glenbard South

Maggie Blair had 10 kills and six digs for the Raiders in a 25-14, 25-20 win over IC Catholic Prep on Oct. 10. Beth Kohl added eight kills, Bailee Flanagan four kills, five digs and two aces and Sadie Camfield 23 assists, 2 blocks, 2 kills for Glenbard South (16-10, 8-2 Metro Suburban Blue).
