CICERO – The Cicero Police Department has found no evidence to support a reported threat of a school shooting in Cicero School District 99, according to a social media post by the district.
"The police has no evidence to support the allegation – regardless we are taking all precautions just to be safe," the district commented just before midnight Oct. 5 on a Suburban Life Media Facebook post, in response to several comments by concerned parents. "Safety of students is our priority. Heightened security tomorrow and all safety precautions will be taken."
At 3:05 p.m. Oct. 4, the district received a phone call from a parent who said he had overheard from his child that there would be a school shooting Oct. 5, according to a phone message from the district.
As of the time of the message, the district had not found any evidence to support the threat, but officials were awaiting a report from the Police Department.
"We're following district protocol to ensure the safety and security of all our staff and students," the message stated.
