ELMHURST – An Elmhurst Democrat is running for the state representative seat currently held by Patti Bellock, who announced she will be retiring at the end of her current term in 2018, leaving the 47th District seat open for the first time in nearly 20 years.
Jim Caffrey will formally announce his bid Sept. 16 at two events in Elmhurst and Hinsdale.
Caffrey plans to focus his candidacy on addressing the state's financial situation and restoring faith in state government, according to a campaign news release.
"Illinois is a great place to live and raise a family, but we just went two years without a budget because our leaders in Springfield could not work together," he said in the release. "The state is struggling to fund basic services and it's not uncommon to hear frustrated neighbors talk about moving out of state. We need our spirit back. We need to believe that our elected leaders can get the job done."
Caffrey is a former Clorox account manager, Peace Corps volunteer and national political organizer, the release stated.
The 47th District includes Elmhurst, Oak Brook, Hinsdale, Clarendon Hills and Westmont in DuPage County, as well as a portion of Western Springs in Cook County.
