This year, a laser light show will be part of the after-party, she said. Music, food trucks and carnival rides also are part of the festivities.
Lights play a major part in the event.
"People run down the street through these luminary lanes," Nemetz said. "We also have some big spotlights that we bring out. Everyone gets a few different glow items in their race bag, and at the first glow station, everybody gets an additional necklace. And then a lot of people bring their own. The runners are all lit up in different ways."
Even though the race is timed, it attracts both novice and experienced runners. The race is rain or shine.
"We have tons of people who walk," Nemetz said. "It's a wide mix of people. Friends have gone and made a night of it and go to downtown Wheaton afterwards. We also have a lot of kids participate."
