SWAT team responds to Downers Grove man barricaded in home

Robert E. Dankwardt, 57, charged with battery, assault, criminal damage to property

DOWNERS GROVE – A Downers Grove man was charged with battery, assault and criminal damage to property Aug. 29 following a domestic disturbance at a house in the 4900 block of Northcott Avenue, according to a village news release.

Downers Grove police responded at about 7:30 p.m. Aug. 28 to investigate a domestic disturbance.

Robert E. Dankwardt, 57, barricaded himself inside the house for several hours and allegedly threatened to shoot investigating officers, the release stated.

The Felony Investigative Assistance SWAT team negotiated with Dankwardt, who exited the house at about 1 a.m. Aug. 29, and he was taken into custody. He was transferred to the DuPage County Jail, where he is awaiting bond court, according to the release.
