LA GRANGE PARK – A Chicago teen was charged in the armed robbery of a 7-Eleven in La Grange Park, according to the La Grange Park Police Department.
While completing business checks in the area at 11:42 p.m. Aug. 18, a La Grange Park police sergeant witnessed two suspects holding up the clerk at the front counter of the 7-Eleven, 704 E. 31st St. One suspect displayed a cellphone, while the other displayed what was believed to be a black handgun, the police bulletin stated.
The suspects left the store on foot, heading northbound, when the police sergeant identified himself and ordered them to stop. After a short foot pursuit, one suspect was taken into custody, while the other remained at large after an extensive search by patrol officers and a K-9 unit, according to the bulletin.
The suspect who was taken into custody was a 17-year-old from Chicago. He was charged with one count of armed robbery, the bulletin stated.
No injuries were reported, according to the bulletin.
The items that were reported stolen, including about $200 in cash, a few packs of cigars and the clerk's cellphone, were all recovered, the bulletin stated.
