Suburban Life Sound Off: Aug. 14-20

No 'fake' Republican tax reform

The Republican tax breaks for the wealthy and corporations masquerading as health care reform thankfully failed. Now they will turn their attention to "tax refor,m" which the Republicans will claim helps the middle class and stimulates the economy. In reality it will do neither. The wealthy and corporations will get the cake and the frosting, and the economy will not be stimulated because the real job creators, the consumer, will only get crumbs. It is aptly named, trickle down economics. Almost 40 years of Reaganomics has brought us unprecedented wealth inequality. The wealthiest 1 percent own more than 50 percent of all the wealth in the United States. Where's the Republican plan to correct this?

Fishing is not 'toxic'

Just read the comment about fishing as war and obviously not eating meat has affected the brain of the poster. Fishing is not a toxic culture. As the old saying goes, "Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day, but teach him to fish and he will eat forever." It is also not only a masculine endeavor. My wife, daughter and granddaughters enjoy it. I guess it is another war deciding who is right. No winners here, just opinions.

Agree with 'two sides of Berwyn?'

My hat goes off to the person who wrote "Two sides of Berwyn" in the Sound Off column... My sentiments exactly.

'Fishing as war?' must be joke

Please tell me that this "fishing as war" piece in the Sound Off column was a joke. This is the most ridiculous thing that I've seen ever in the Sound Off column. I think that the "snowflakes" are actually turning into a blizzard here.

Thoughts on Trump

It seems like no matter what President [Donald] Trump does, his family or his friends, it's always wrong. He can't say nothing right. He can't do nothing right. The socialist government or the Democratic party are going to do everything they can to get rid of Trump. Trump should stick in there and tell them, "The heck with you."

From Trump to 'fishing as war?'

First, [Donald] Trump was right. Takes two to fight. Media made him a jerk, but wrong. Second, Trump never sided with the pro-white side, condemned everyone including terrorists. Thus he was correct. Third, "Responsible dog owners": There is a law against not cleaning up after your dog. Just report the incident to the police. And last for this week, I took a great friend of mine out to dinner. She ordered a salad (she is Vegan), I ordered a rare steak. Her comment to me was, "You are what you eat." Told her, "Cool, cow, fish, bird, pig." My addition was, "If you are what you eat, does what you eat make you a vegetable?" Against fishing as "war."

Why exempt from Cook County tax?

Regarding this new tax from [Cook] County on sugar drinks and pop and that, originally this was supposed to be a tax that was going to help people with their health and also help the county. Well, if that is true, then how come people who are using food stamps or welfare cards exempt from this tax? Isn't their health important, or is the burden of this tax just supposed to be on everyone else?
