The Plainfield Police Department has warned of a scam that could be lurking in your mailbox.
A Plainfield resident reported receiving a congratulatory letter in the mail from South Africa saying that they had won a sweepstakes from Investic Financial Incorporated, police said in a Facebook post.
The letter included a fake check for $250,010 with instructions on how to pay the processing fee to get the money.
The Police advise not cashing the check or contacting the scammers.
Instead, the Plainfield police recommend filing a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission or contacting Detective Meszaros at email@example.com for assistance.
