Wheaton traffic stop leads to weapons charge for Chicago woman

WHEATON – A Chicago woman has been charged with unlawful use of a firearm after being stopped July 5 in Wheaton for an alleged traffic violation.

Carla Seals, 29, of the 4500 block of West 79th Street, Chicago, was charged with two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a firearm, according to a news release from the Wheaton Police Department. Her next court date is set for July 31.

At 2:32 a.m July 5, a Wheaton police officer stopped a vehicle driven by Seals for an alleged traffic violation, the release stated.

The officer allegedly smelled marijuana inside the vehicle and conducted a search, according to the release. It is alleged two loaded Glock handguns and several ski masks were recovered from the vehicle, the release stated.

One of the passengers in the vehicle, Sherell Sanders, 24, of the 700 block of West Forest Avenue, West Chicago, also was arrested on a failure to appear warrant, according to the release. Two other passengers were released without charges.
