Suburban Life comes in 2nd for Will Loomis Memorial Trophy

Group wins 16 other awards

DOWNERS GROVE – Suburban Life Media took home several honors June 9 from the Illinois Press Association’s annual convention in Springfield, including second place in the large, non-daily newspaper category.

Suburban Life was the runner-up for the Will Loomis Memorial Trophy, which it won in 2016. The group's sister publication the Kane County Chronicle received third place.

Suburban Life took home 16 other awards for sports, photo, page design and headline writing.

It also won second place for its lifestyle section, Weekend Life.

Photo Editor Mark Busch took home first-place awards for his Elmhurst Cycling Classic photo series and his spot news photo of the fire that destroyed the RoomPlace furniture warehouse in Woodridge, along with seven other awards.

Sports Editor Jason Rossi, Day Production Editor Jes Spivak and copy editor/page designer Joe Zenkel each won two awards.

More than 100 daily and non-daily newspapers competed in 36 editorial categories, according to a news release from the Illinois Press Association. The Colorado Press Association judged more than 3,000 editorial entries.
