Berwyn helps residents keep cool during extreme heat

BERWYN – With temperatures of about 90 degrees, the city of Berwyn is reminding residents of available public cooling centers.

The following locations are designated cooling centers in Berwyn:

• Berwyn Police Department, 6401 W. 31st St., open 24/7

• Berwyn Public Library, 2701 S. Harlem Ave., open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday

• Berwyn Recreation Department, 6501 W. 31st St., open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday

• Freedom Park Administrative Office, 3701 S. Scoville Ave., open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

If residents need to use a cooling center but do not have transportation, they should contact the Berwyn Police Department at 708-795-5600 to make arrangements.

The city also encourages residents to keep an eye on their neighbors.

"We encourage you to check on your neighbors (especially the elderly) during periods of extreme weather, to ensure that they are safe," an alert from the city stated.
