ELMHURST – The Elmhurst Police department is planning a roadside safety checkpoint on an unidentified major roadway in the city April 14, according to a news release from the city.
The department is a part of a year-long grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation providing funding for additional enforcement of DUI and seatbelt laws in an effort to reduce fatal and serious-injury crashes.
The safety checkpoint will begin at 11:30 p.m. and continue through 3:30 a.m. the next morning. During the checkpoint, vehicles will be stopped at a predetermined interval and checked for violations. Such checkpoints have proved to be a significant deterrent to impaired driving.
