ELMHURST –áDo-gooder runners and walkers flocked to the winter streets of Elmhurst to support a local man's fight against Lou Gehrig's disease, or ALS, in the annual No Frills Fun Run Feb. 26.
Each year, the winter fundraiser draws runners and non-runners alike to support an Elmhurst resident or family in need. The course has a measured distance for 13.1 and 6.55 miles, but allows participants to choose how far they want to go, emphasizing supporting the cause over distance.
This year, the event raised money Matt Toole, who has been fighting amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, a progressive neurodegenitive disease that effects motor function.
The effort raised a total of $80,000 through individual fundraising and a number of fundraising events, including a special pre-race concert at Riley's Gathering Place Feb. 25.
