3 people sent to hospital after head-on crash on Route 20 near Marengo, officials say

MARENGO – Three people were taken to the hospital – one with serious injuries – after a two-car crash Thursday night outside Marengo, officials said.

Marengo Fire Protection District Lt. Noel Gaines said crews responded about 6:30 p.m. to Route 20, east of Burma Road.

McHenry County Sheriff’s Deputy Aimee Knop said a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu was traveling west on Route 20 when for unknown reasons it crossed the center line and struck an eastbound 2007 Toyota Yaris head-on.

Two occupants in the Malibu were taken to Centegra Hospital – Huntley with minor injuries, Knop and Gaines said, and the driver of the Yaris was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. All injuries were not considered to be life-threatening, Knop said.

The Woodstock Fire Protection District and Huntley Fire Protection District also assisted.

Knop said traffic was detoured for a short time. Investigation of the crash is ongoing, she said.
