To the Editor:
Once again, we are in the season of thanks.
As chairman of the Westchester Blood Program, I’m extending our sincere appreciation to all of our loyal, generous donors for giving a unit or two of blood during 2016.
I speak on behalf of the hundreds of hospital patients who benefited from the blood products – whole blood, platelets, red cells or plasma – donated in Westchester or elsewhere.
Our group finished the year with our fifth annual Turkey Drive on Nov. 15, receiving 41 units from donors who received free turkeys, thanks to LifeSource Blood Services.
Those units put our total for the year at 417.
That is way below our target of 500 units annually, but we understand that we face a nationwide decrease of donations.
All we can do is to raise our efforts to reach the minds of the area’s millennials.
