No one was injured Tuesday in a fire that destroyed a barn filled with straw in Alden Township, a fire official said.

Hebron-Alden-Greenwood Fire Protection District Chief Thomas Linneman said crews responded to calls for a barn fire about 10:50 a.m. at 15212 Thayer Road.

The straw barn was fully engulfed when the fire district arrived, Linneman said, and the building is a total loss.

There were no people or animals injured in the fire, Linneman said. A nearby dairy barn had some exposure to the fire, but the house on the property was not damaged, he said.

As of about 4:45 p.m., crews still were at the scene as they let the fire burn out. A Mutual-Aid Box Alarm System was called to the third level to receive help from area departments. Linneman said the rural area does not have fire hydrants.

The cause of the fire still is under investigation, Linneman said, but it appears to be accidental.
