Wonder Lake man faces upgraded felony DUI charges after 1996 reckless homicide conviction

WOODSTOCK – A Wonder Lake man faces upgraded felony DUI charges based on a previous reckless homicide conviction in 1996.

Dennis R. Zidek, 39, of the 5000 block of East Lake Shore Drive, was charged with aggravated driving under the influence, a Class 3 felony, and driving while license revoked, a Class 4 felony.

The Class 3 felony is not punishable by conditional discharge or probation.

Before the indictment, Zidek was charged earlier this year with misdemeanor driving under the influence.

Zidek was previously convicted of reckless homicide, a Class 2 felony, in 1996. On Dec. 19, 1995, he was arrested after he drove his Pontiac Grand Prix off the road while under the influence of alcohol in a crash that killed Peterson L. Doud, according to court documents. Zidek was sentenced to probation and DUI school.

Zidek is out on bond and will next appear in court before McHenry County Judge Sharon Prather on Oct. 5.
