BOLINGBROOK – An emergency pothole repair has required closing the right southbound lane of Interstate 55 over route 53, according to a news release from the Illinois Department of Transportation.
The repair is expected to last until late this afternoon, possibly impacting the evening commute, according to a news release IDOT issued about 1:30 p.m.
Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment, according to the news release.
The bridge where the repair is taking place will be included in a larger patching project, tentatively starting in late October, to improve I-55 between Weber Road and Interstate 355.
