Township government is the oldest form of government in our country; yet it is probably the one people are most unfamiliar with.
Township services touch the lives of most of our residents. We are small, accessible, responsive, and cost effective, claiming no more than 1.6 percent of the entire real estate tax bill.
I would like to take this opportunity to give you a brief outline of how the office of Township Supervisor operates.
As York Township Supervisor I serve as Chief Executive Officer and Treasurer of York Township, Chairperson of the board of Trustees and Supervisor of General Assistance. My office administers all governmental functions with the exception of the offices of Clerk, Assessor and Highway Commissioner.
As members of the Board of Trustees Anthony Cuzzone, Barbara Finn, John Morrissey and Rae Rupp Srch represent the public on the Township Board, audit accounts, monitor the performance of York Township programs and services, vote on contracts, personnel matters and routine Township business. We all do our best to improve the quality of life for our residents.
In addition to our General Assistance office, our Senior Center, Senior Nutrition and Senior Transportation programs, York Township has a mosquito abatement program that utilizes both environmentally safe aerial spraying and the placement of high-powered traps in fields and wetlands within our jurisdiction. Through contractual arrangement with the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office, additional police protection is provided by a special deputy assigned to patrol and protect York Township’s unincorporated areas.
The members of our Advisory Committees serve voluntarily. The Senior Advisory Committee explores programs to maintain the self-sufficiency and personal well-being of seniors. The Youth Advisory Board explores programs to prevent juvenile delinquency and meet the needs of local youth. These committees regularly make recommendations to the Supervisor and the Board of Trustees.
