Crystal Lake man critically injured after Long Grove crash, officials say

LONG GROVE – A Crystal Lake man is in critical condition after a two-vehicle crash at Lake Cook Road and Hicks Road in Long Grove, officials said.

Lake County Sheriff’s Office Detective Chris Covelli said a 21-year-old Crystal Lake man was traveling west in a Volkswagen Golf on Lake Cook Road about 1:25 a.m. when he rear-ended and drove underneath the trailer of a semitruck that was slowing or stopped near Hicks Road.

The Crystal Lake man was taken by ambulance to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge where he remains in critical condition, Covelli said. The 33-year-old semitruck driver from Fargo, North Dakota, was not injured.

No citations have been issued, and the crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff Technical Crash Investigation Unit. Covelli said investigators will work to determine if alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.

The sheriff’s office, Long Grove, Palatine, Lake Zurich and Lincolnshire fire departments all responded to the scene.
