DuPage County Board approves $1M in annual grant funding

Published: Tuesday, April 12, 2016 3:05 p.m. CST • Updated: Tuesday, April 12, 2016 3:16 p.m. CST

Nearly 60 nonprofits across DuPage County each received thousands of dollars from the County Board as a part of the annual Human Services Grant Fund program.

The DuPage County Board unanimously passed the appropriations at its April 12 meeting.

The fund vets applicant organizations to receive a portion of the annual $1 million allowance to help fund projects that improve the quality of life for residents – likely particularly useful as elected officials in Springfield continue a months-long budget standoff, resulting in funding losses for many programs.

Each hopeful organization must submit a detailed plan and specific monetary request for the project. Then, qualified agencies are graded on a scale that awards a percentage of the available funds. This year, more than $2.4 million was requested to help fund $38.5 million in projects.

In 2016, the grants have a wide range of impacts, including homeless shelters, programs for those with special needs, affordable housing and food pantries, with grants running from $2,689 to $45,000.
