BENSENVILLE – Metra announced April 5 it will close the ticket office at the Bensenville station on April 15, and will reassign the ticket agent position to a higher volume station along the Milwaukee North Line.
Customers who use the Bensenville station after April 15 will be able to purchase a one-way paper ticket onboard from a conductor at no extra cost, the news release stated. In addition, customers have a variety of other options for buying tickets. Those include buying from a ticket agent or vending machine at all five downtown stations, and buying tickets online through Metra’s website at www.metrarail.com.
Metra customers also can buy Metra mobile tickets on their smartphones with the new Ventra app. The free app is available for download at the App Store and Google Play.
Amtrak recently announced plans to permanently close its ticket office at the Glenview station on the Milwaukee North Line. In addition to its own tickets, Amtrak also had sold Metra tickets at the Glenview location, which serves 1,124 weekday morning passengers as compared to 294 in Bensenville.
Seeing a need for the continued presence of a ticket agent at the Glenview location, Metra analyzed boarding numbers and ticket sales at train stations along both its Milwaukee Line routes. It was decided to close the Bensenville ticket office and reassign the agent to Glenview as of May 9.
