Face Time with Rob Mondi

Geneva resident Rob Mondi, 46, was at his restaurant, Abby’s Breakfast and Lunch in St. Charles, when he answered 12 questions for the Kane County Chronicle’s Brenda Schory.

Where did you grow up? St. Charles. I graduated from East in 1987.

Pets? Two cats, Zorro and Baby Girl

Who would play you in the
movie of your life? Mark Ruffalo

First job? Making salads and washing dishes at the Wasco Inn. There’s a Dairy Queen there now.

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? A radio disc jockey. I became a restaurateur. I owned eight Dunkin’ Donuts and Slider Frank’s, a hot dog stand on the east side of St. Charles. 

A book you’d recommend? “The Alienist” by Caleb Carr

Favorite charity? TriCity Family Services in Geneva and CASA Kane County

Do you have children? Three of my own and two stepchildren, five total

Favorite ice cream flavor? Pistachio

Words of wisdom? Life isn’t equal but it is fair.

Do you play an instrument? Guitar

Favorite local restaurant? Abby’s Breakfast and Lunch in St. Charles
