Algonquin man seriously injured in I-355 crash near Lombard

33-year-old partially ejected after his vehicle struck concrete median, bounced back into traffic, police say

LOMBARD – A 33-year-old Algonquin man was seriously injured in a crash on I-355 near Lombard, Illinois State Police said Friday.

The man was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Blazer south on the tollway near St. Charles Road just after 7 a.m. when, for unknown reasons, he lost control of his vehicle and swerved to the right, according to a news release. Police said he struck a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox being driven by a 32-year-old Mount Prospect man in the far right lane.

The Algonquin man then swerved back to the left, struck a concrete median and bounced back into traffic, striking a 200 Chevrolet Express van in the far left lane, police said. A 31-year-old Roselle man was driving the van, police said.

The Algonquin man was not wearing his seat belt, officials said. He suffered severe injuries when he was partially ejected during one of the impacts and was transported to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, according to a news release.

Police closed all southbound lanes on southbound I-355 at St. Charles Road while they investigated the crash.
