WILMINGTON — Police say a Chicago man over the weekend threatened his estranged Wilmington girlfriend — and her young son — with a knife.
Wilmington police responded about 3 a.m. Saturday to the 100 block of South First Street in Wilmington after receiving a 911 call that Aristides Penagos, 27, of the 5000 block of West Newport Avenue in Chicago, was standing outside an apartment with a knife and wouldn't allow his ex or her 7-year-old son to leave, according to a Wilmington Police Department news release.
When police arrived, they found a large knife had been placed on the handrail outside. When they knocked on the door, Penagos answered and attempted to shut the door, the release stated, but officers were able to force their way in to help the woman. She and her son were not injured.
Penagos was arrested and taken to the Will County jail. He is charged with unlawful restraint.
