Glen Ellyn bicyclist injured after being hit by van in Glendale Heights

Crash occurred Jan. 12 on North Avenue

A 29-year-old Glen Ellyn bicyclist was treated at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove for severe injuries Jan. 12 after he was hit by a van on North Avenue in Glendale Heights.

At about 2:30 p.m., officers from the Glendale Heights Police Department, DuPage County Sheriff's Office and Glenside Fire District responded to the 600 block of North Avenue for a report of a motor vehicle accident with injuries, according to a news release from the Glendale Heights Police Department.

A preliminary investigation indicates a 2006 Toyota van driven by a 55-year-old Glendale Heights resident was headed west in the 600 block of North Avenue on the shoulder and collided with a 29-year-old Glen Ellyn man riding a bicycle east on that same shoulder.

Accident investigators and evidence technicians from the Glendale Heights Police Department, working in conjunction with the DuPage County Sheriff's Office, are continuing to investigate the collision. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Police Department at 630-260-6070.
