Batavia Public School District 101 seeking Hall of Honor nominations

BATAVIA – Batavia Public School District 101 and the Batavia Foundation for Educational Excellence now are accepting nominations for the 2016 BPS Hall of Honor recognition program.

The program is designed to honor accomplishments made by Batavia High School alumni, BPS101 staff members and community members who have demonstrated excellence in their field and/or commitment to the school district, according to a release.

Honorees will be inducted into the BPS Hall of Honor in the fall. A permanent display of inductees is showcased at Batavia High School in the school’s main hall.

“We have excellent students in Batavia Public Schools, so it follows that they would leave us and make great contributions in their chosen paths,” Batavia Superintendent Dr. Lisa Hichens stated in the release. “This is the second year for the BPS Hall of Honor, which serves as an inspiration for current and future Bulldogs.”

Candidates must be nominated and fulfill the criteria in one of two categories – BHS alumni and special recognition for non-BHS alumni, the release stated.

The first category is for Batavia High School graduates who have been out of school at least 15 years and demonstrated excellence and made significant contributions in their specific field or career. The graduates also can be someone who contributed significantly to their community, state or country.

The non-BHS alumni can be past or present staff members who worked at BPS 101 for a minimum of 10 years and who, through their employment at Batavia, have demonstrated a deep commitment to Batavia students, parents and staff, according to the release.

Other non-BHS alumni can be a “Friend of Batavia,” or an individual who has given meritorious service to Batavia or one or more of its schools for many years, the release stated. Batavia staff members are not excluded from the “Friend of Batavia” honor, but the nominations should be for something other than what they achieved.

Nominations may be submitted by any member of the community, alumni or staff member. Completed applications are due by Feb. 1.

Nominations may be submitted online at bps101.net/hallofhonor, via email to HallofHonor@bps101.net, faxed to 630-937-8801 or by personal delivery to the superintendent’s office at 335 W. Wilson St., Batavia.
