ADDISON – A Medical marijuana dispensary in Addison has opened its doors to patients.

EarthMed at 852 S. Westgate St., in Addison, is one of four licensed suburban facilities in Illinois that will be selling pot to eligible patients. The other three dispensaries in the suburbs are located in Mundelein, North Aurora and Schaumburg, but only the clinics in Addison and Mundelein opened Nov. 9, according to media reports.

Sales of legal medical marijuana started across the state Nov. 9.

State officials expect 25 dispensaries to open to patients by the end of the year. Besides the suburban Chicago facilities, the four other licensed dispensaries in Illinois that were cleared to open are in Marion, Canton, Quincy and Ottawa, according to media reports.

Patients must have a valid ID card and be registered at the dispensary to be eligible to purchase medical marijuana. According to media reports, the filing and registration period could take as long as 48 hours.
