LA GRANGE – The Legacy Guild scholarship program reached new heights Feb. 28 at FitzGerald’s Nightclub in Berwyn. More than $124,000 was raised toward scholarships for students of Lyons Township District 204 who have lost a parent.
More than 350 supporters for the program came to FitzGerald’s to attend silent and live auctions and listen to a live performance by Maggie Speaks as part of the Legacy Guild’s Big Spring Event.
La Grange’s own Ed Carr received the Bill Purcell Spirit of the Legacy Guild Volunteer of the Year Award, dedicated to Lyons Township High School Board member, father of four and community leader Bill Purcell, who passed away in 2012.
“This was our biggest fundraiser ever to support our Legacy Guild Scholars,” said La Grange Park resident Pat Carrabine, co-chair of the event. “This community has rallied time and again to remember those we’ve lost, and to help their children left behind achieve their dream of a college education.”
Applications for the program for next year are due March 31 and can be found at www.thelegacyguild.com.
