Published: Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2014 3:55 p.m. CDT

WEST CHICAGO – The West Chicago Police Department is alerting residents to a possible scam involving an email offering a chance at a lottery drawing under the guise of Publishers Clearing House International.

The subject line of the email is titled "Letter," and it includes an attached letter appearing to be on letterhead from Publishers Clearing House regarding official prize notification. The letter requests personal information such as full name, date of birth and residential address.

Residents are encouraged to report suspicious emails by contacting 911 to file a police report, filing a complaint with the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center at fbi.gov, or forwarding unsolicited email offers to the Federal Trade Commission at spam@uce.gov.

For more information on cyber crime, contact the West Chicago Police Department at 630-293-2222.
