MUNDELEIN – The first start in a Fenwick uniform for Jack Beneventi was a winning one.

The senior transfer from Benet helped the Friars beat Carmel 31-20 in the season opener Friday night.

After leading 14-7 at halftime, Beneventi threw for a passing touchdown to add to the lead. In the fourth quarter, Connecticut commit Aaron Garland had a pick-six to make it 31-14 Friars.

Fenwick (1-0) plays Bishop Lynch from Dallas next Saturday at 1 p.m.
