Lyons Township's Emmett Corrigan (from left), Leonard Ross, and Dante Stefanini get ready for the season opener with a preseason inter squad scrimmage on Friday, Aug. 22, 2014.

TALENTED BACKFIELD: Seniors Leonard Ross and Tommy Fiedler give the Lions one of the best backfields in the area. Ross ran for 1,053 yards and totaled 14 touchdowns; Fiedler passed for 1,738 yards with 18 total touchdowns and just two interceptions last season. "It's nice to start out with a backfield tandem like Tommy and Leonard for sure, but I think we'll be good in a lot of areas." LT coach Kurt Weinberg said.

HOPING TO START FAST: In each of the past three seasons the Lions have had a losing record entering October only to rally for a playoff spot with a 5-4 record. Thanks to the strength of the West Suburban Silver, a 5-4 record will typically be good enough to make the playoffs, but the Lions are hoping to avoid a similar fate this fall. LT's first two opponents, Warren and Willowbrook, beat the Lions a year ago.

LOOKING FOR MORE D: Last year the Lions gave up an average of 28 points per game, second-worst in the West Suburban Silver. The defense has higher expectations this fall with a senior-laden group led by returning starters Dante Stefanini, Aaron Smith (both linemen) and Joe Dillon (linebacker). They will be joined by the likes of fellow seniors Connor Gales, Charlie Herbert, Danny O'Malley and Liam Held.
