Westmont resident and special education coordinator Marthony Bert recently found her calling on the roller derby rink and currently plays for the Aurora 88s

Thumbs up to Westmont resident Marthony Bert for sharing her story with the Suburban Life staff. In need of a place where she could have some time to herself, the 45-year-old special education coordinator and mother of two recently joined a local roller derby team. She says roller derby helped her physical and mental fitness, and she now spends her free time reading literature on the sport, watching derby clips on YouTube and advocating for others to join on social media.

Thumbs up and congratulations to Liz Haefele, who will open her new Westmont dance studio on Sept. 2. The longtime Downers Grove resident is the sole proprietor of Pure Vibe Dance Center, located at 102 Chestnut Ave., an 8,000-square-foot dance space that features three large studios and is structured to provide a well-rounded program of dance techniques, genres, choreography and performance for beginners to highly skilled technical dancers wanting to continue their dance training at a more professional level. We are looking forward to the opening and wish you the best of luck in your new venture.
