DuPage County Stormwater operating flood control facilities Friday morning

WHEATON – DuPage County Stormwater Management is operating several flood control facilities as of early Friday morning due to heavy rainfall last night, according to a county news release.

The county received 1.5 to 4 inches of rain Thursday afternoon into early Friday morning and stream elevations rose high enough to warrant operating the Elmhurst Quarry Flood Control Facility, the Spring Creek Reservoir in Bloomingdale and the Fawell Dam in Naperville.

Of the county's 16 flood control facilities, four have mechanical equipment that allow staff to control them. The remaining facilities use fixed weirs and natural draining systems, totalling an overall floodwater storage capacity of nearly 4 billion gallons.
