McHENRY – The city of McHenry's south wastewater treatment plant has been nominated as one of the state's best operated wastewater plant by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency.
The award is given out to five plants based on their size and treatment process type. McHenry's plant is one of seven facilities that have been nominated in its group, which includes more than 180 facilities statewide.
"The purpose of the annual awards is to emphasize the relationship between adequate wastewater treatment and clean receiving waters and to give public recognition and encouragement to communities, their officials and the operating personnel who have operated their wastewater facilities in an especially effective manner," the city of McHenry said in a news release.
The award will be presented at the Illinois Association of Water Pollution Control Operators' annual conference in 2015.
