Addison students prepare for a safe school year

ADDISON – Addison Police Officer Omar Brucal spoke to Addison Elementary School District 4 fifth-graders who will serve on their schools' safety patrols during a training session Aug. 15 at Army Trail Elementary School.

Brucal discussed the role the safety patrols play and the procedures the patrols will need to follow this school year with the students and their parents, emphasizing it is the students' job to inform adults of unsafe situations, rather than attempt to solve problems on their own.

Patrol duties vary by school, but some responsibilities include assisting adult crossing guards during arrival and dismissal and monitoring hallways, lunchrooms and playground areas.
