Published: Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2014 1:37 p.m. CST

WEST CHICAGO – The West Chicago Police Department will conduct roadside safety checks through the end of August.

The safety checks are conducted to provide a deterrent for those who might violate the Illinois Vehicle Code or West Chicago city ordinances and to promote the well-being and safety of the public.

The safety checks will be used to detect individuals who are operating a vehicle with defective equipment, who have no proof of insurance or no valid driver’s license or permit, or who are under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The police department will conduct safety checks during hours that provide the maximum opportunity for detection and apprehension of motorists who drive under the influence of alcohol or other substances.
