Music Matters to hold open house in Batavia

New location is in old Lousie White School

BATAVIA – Music Matters School of Music invites the community to its open house from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at its new location, the old Louise White School, at 24 N. Washington Ave., Batavia.

As part of the open house, Batavia Mayor Jeff Schielke will participate in a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 1 p.m. During the day, there will be theater class demonstrations and prizes will be given away, according to a news release.

“It is really a dream come true,” Music Matters Director and lifelong Batavia resident Jeff Matter said, according to a news release. “To see the smiles on our student’s faces when they enter the new building brings joy to my heart.”

Music Matters opened in June 2006 at its former location on Wilson Street in downtown Batavia and moved into its current location this summer. With this new location, Music Matters now has the space to offer several new classes, including percussion ensemble, steel band, group ukulele classes and several other classes for adults and children.

“Our new theater program is something I have wanted to do for a long time and now we have the space to offer those classes,” Matter said, according to the release. “The school will have theater classes for children grades kindergarten through high school. The class I am really excited about is our ‘Glee’ class, where our students will get to sing and dance their favorite songs and perform them for everyone.”
