Addison warns residents of utility scams

Published: Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2014 1:21 p.m. CST

ADDISON – The village of Addison has received numerous complaints that residents are being targeted by utiliy solication scams.

These solicitors are going door to door, attempting to sign residents up for electricity or gas suppliers. They do not have a permit from the village, and they have not been selected as suppliers by Addison officials.

Some solicitors have told residents there is a problem with their bill in order to take the account number off the bill and illegally switch the customer to a different company.

There are no utility solicitors permitted by the village to go door to door. Residents should not share any account information, either in person or over the phone.

Anyone who has been approached by one of these utility scammers should contact the Addison Police Department at 630-543-3080.
