WEST CHICAGO – A 30-year-old man from West Chicago died Monday from injuries sustained in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 55 in downstate Logan County.

Jose Rojas-Duanez was a passenger in a 2006 Chevy SUV that was traveling southbound on I-55 at 7:10 a.m. when it entered the mile post 140 exit ramp at Atlanta, Illinois State Police said.

Police said the SUV lost control and left the road, entering the west embankment off the ramp and striking a tree.

Rojas-Duanez was pronounced dead at 11:40 a.m., police said.

The driver, identified as Jose Llanos, 18, also from West Chicago, was transported to Advocate BroMenn Medical Center in Bloomington for minor injuries, police said.

Police said the SUV involved in the crash is owned by a West Chicago resident who was not in the vehicle during the accident.

No charges have been made in the crash, pending the completion of the investigation, police said.
