Roof fire causes minor damage on Oak Brook office high rise

Published: Sunday, Aug. 17, 2014 9:37 a.m. CDT

OAK BROOK – Fire crews needed less than a half hour to put out a Saturday morning fire on the roof of a high-rise office building in Oak Brook.

Roofers doing work atop the 15-story building at 1515 22nd St., across from the Oakbrook mall, caused the fire, according to Lt. Brian Bitterlin of the Oak Brook Fire Department.

Firefighters used pump cans to extinguish the fire and opened up about 500 square feet of the roofing to expose the layer of plywood. The fire was contained by 8:55 a.m., Bitterlin said.

Fire departments from Lombard, Broadview, Hinsdale, Westmont, York Center and Oakbrook Terrace were called to assist.
