ROMEOVILLE – A trial date has been chosen for a 24-year-old man who is accused of killing a 15-year-old girl in her driveway earlier this year in Romeoville.

Lawyers agreed Wednesday that Erick M. Maya, of the 5600 block of Park Avenue in Cicero, will face a jury trial Sept. 8 before Judge Robert Livas.

On Feb. 13, Maya was allegedly lying in wait outside Briana Valle's house in the 300 block of Emery Avenue when she and her mother, Alicia Guerrero, got in their car. Briana, a Romeoville High School student who previously dated Maya, was shot in the head and died four days later. Guerrero was shot in the neck but survived.

Maya threatened to rape and kill his ex-girlfriend last year, according to an order of protection for the family, which was extended by a judge the month before her slaying.

Maya is charged with murder and attempted murder.
