Carol Stream's Community Girlz raise more than $2,700 for shelter

CAROL STREAM – Carol Stream's Community Girlz continued their tradition of helping others through a fundraiser Saturday for the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans.

During the three-hour neighborhood fundraiser, featuring handmade crafts and jewelry, baked goods and more, $2,771.28 was raised by the 10 Community Girlz.

The event was attended by many friends and family, neighbors, community members and village officials, Community Girl Donna Gieser told Suburban Life Media in an email.

For those who were unable to attend but still want to contribute, checks may be made payable to Community Girlz and sent to Community Girlz, 136 Arapahoe Trail, Carol Stream, IL 60188.

The Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans is a Wheaton nonprofit that provides transitional and affordable housing programs and other services to U.S. veterans and their families to help them out of homelessness and back to useful, productive lives, according to the organization's website.
