GENEVA – A round of golf and dinner can help a local church bring clean water to two small villages in Guatemala.
Links for Living Waters, a charity golf tournament and dinner, is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Aug. 22 at Mill Creek Golf Club, 39w525 Herrington Drive, Blackberry Township near Geneva.
The fundraiser is part of a mission of Fox Valley Presbyterian Church in Geneva – Living Waters for the World – a program that brings clean water filtration systems to small villages in Guatemala, according to the church. The church partners with Living Waters for the World, a global mission resource of the Synod of Living Waters of the Presbyterian Church USA.
In the past 18 months, the church has sent volunteers to six villages to teach local leaders how to install and maintain these water systems, and provided health and hygiene education sessions for parents and children. The mission addresses a critical need for clean water in the world as 3 million die each year from preventable, water-related illness, most of them children, according to the church.
The cost is $75 a person and includes 18 holes of golf, cart, fee, dinner and opportunity to purchase tickets for a prize drawing.
For dinner only, the cost is $50 a person and includes the opportunity to buy prize drawing tickets.
Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. with shotgun start at 1 p.m. and concludes with dinner at 5:30 p.m. Advance registration for the event is required online at www.livingwatersfvpres.org.
