Villa Park Public Works employees Joe Petrancosta (left) and Glenn Schleinzer lower two time capsules into the ground Aug. 2 outside Village Hall in celebration of the village's 100th anniversary.

THUMBS UP: Villa Park came up with a lot of great ideas while planning the village's 100-year anniversary celebration. A daylong picnic – complete with live music, games and fireworks – highlighted the official centennial celebration last weekend. About a week earlier, though, the village also took strides to preserve its history when two time capsules were buried outside Village Hall. The hope is that officials will dig up and open the capsules in 25 years. Can't wait to see how Villa Park has changed when they do.

THUMBS UP: The housing market in Villa Park appears to be on the upswing. Data from Mainstreet Organization of Realtors shows that home sales and prices in the village were up in June. Real estate expert Doug MacArtney said a variety of factors have combined to make this an ideal situation for both sellers and buyers. Happy house hunting.
