Progressive Village Performance Network hosts 'A Flight of Shakespeare'

WESTMONT – The Progressive Village Performance Network will present “A Flight of Shakespeare” during the second annual Bard in the Park Series.

The cast will be performing seven shows, each in a “Ravinia-type” setting. The first performance was held Sunday in Clarendon Hills and upcoming shows will be Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Ty Warner Park, Aug. 22 at the Westmont Public Library, and Aug. 23 and 24 at Fishel Park in Downers Grove, according to a release from the Progressive Village Performance Network.

Show times will be 7 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. on Sundays, according to the release.

This year, audience members have the opportunity to sample an assortment of Shakespeare’s writings, as cast will perform a memorable scenes from "Macbeth," "Midsummer Night’s Dream," "King Lear," "Romeo and Juliet" and more, the release stated.

All performances are free of charge and snacks and beverages are welcome in each of the park settings.

Additionally, the Progressive Village Performance Network is hosting auditions for an upcoming rendition of "Little Women."

Auditions will be held from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at the Westmont Park District Community Center, 75 E Richmond St.

To audition for this production attendees should come prepared with a 1.5 to 2-minute dramatic monologue. All skill levels are welcome, and monologues will be available onsite for those who are new to theater or who are unable to prepare a monologue, according to a release.

"Little Women" will run from Nov. 7 to Nov. 16 at Westview Hills Middle School, 630 65th St.

In an association with the Westmont Park District, the Progressive Village Performance Network is an organization whose mission is to inspire, nurture, challenge, amaze, educate, and empower artists and audiences in order to artistically enhance our village, through diverse access and a variety of participation opportunities.
