WARRENVILLE – The driver of a commercial cement truck was pronounced dead at Candence Hospital in Winfield after police said the truck he was driving hit a tree while traveling north on Winfield Road near Greenview Avenue just south of Illinois Route 56 Friday afternoon.

In a news release, police said no other vehicles were involved in the crash.

The driver is believed to have suffered a medical emergency while driving, which led him to cross through southbound traffic, leave the roadway and strike the tree, police said.

The man's injuries and what caused him to crash are unknown at this time, pending an autopsy by the DuPage County Medical Examiner's Office.

The crash caused portions of Winfield Road to be closed Friday for several hours.

The name of the driver was withheld until members of the man's family could be notified, police said.

The crash is still under investigation by the Warrenville Police Department.
