Crystal Lake motorcyclist killed in Lake in the Hills crash

A Crystal Lake man died in a motorcycle crash on Rakow Road early Saturday morning, according to a news release from the Lake in the Hills Police Department.

A 2004 Suzuki motorcycle driven by a male was traveling eastbound on Rakow Road, west of Pingree Road. The motorcycle rear-ended a 1998 Mercedes driven by Joel Avita, that was also traveling eastbound on Rakow. A collision ensued and the motorcycle rider was ejected.

The Lake in the Hills Police Department was notified at 3:40 a.m., and the Crystal Lake Fire Department and Flight for Life responded and tended to the victim. The victim was transported to Advocate Condell Hospital in Libertyville, where he later died.

The release of the victim's name is pending family notification. Rakow Road was closed for approximately four hours.

The accident remains under investigation.
