St. Mary of Gostyn has accomplished alumni

St. Mary of Gostyn Catholic School is proud of the accomplishments its alumni have achieved. Director of Development and Marketing Jill Tierney recently shared about some of the school’s noted alumni.

Question: What are some alumni accomplishments?
Answer: Many St. Mary of Gostyn Catholic School (SMG) alumni are on high school honor rolls, Illinois State Scholars and National Honor Society members. Some academic achievements include National Merit Scholars; AP Scholars; Academic All Stars; Spanish, Math, Music and International Thespian Honor Societies; and IHSA Scholastic Recognition.

Question: Is there an alumnus you would like to highlight?
Answer: Julia Luka: $141,688 college academic scholarships, High Honors. Gabriel Lynch: $233,904 college academic scholarships, Monini Catholic Valedictorian, Argonne Scholar. Katherine Mahlke: Volleyball Magazine’s Fab 50, University of Michigan-bound, high honor/National Honor Society. Zack Smith: 3rd at State Cross Country meet, University of Illinois-bound, IHSA All-State Academic Team with alum Dan O’Keefe. Jane Woywod: Scholastic Gold and Silver Key Art Award Winner. Keara Corbett, Annie Ketchmark, Maureen Sanderson and Tessa O’Connell: Illinois Music Educators Association District Festival.

Question: Why do you think alumni do well after graduation? How are they prepared for high school and beyond?
Answer: Students experience a rigorous blend of core subjects with “specials” including Spanish, computers, art and music. Along with mastering academic subjects, strong organizational skills contribute toward student achievement. SMG offers club and enrichment opportunities to support academic interests. The SMG no-cut athletic program beginning in 5th grade is part of the broader educational process. It represents our commitment to providing ample opportunities for student participation and success on and off the courts and playing fields. SMG’s award winning fine arts program includes visual and performing arts. Many alumni were introduced to theatre through our spring musical. | 445 Prairie Ave, Downers Grove, IL 60515 | 630.969.1063
