Park Avenue becomes one-way street during Metra construction

Published: Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014 7:46 p.m. CDT

LOMBARD – Park Avenue between St. Charles Road and Michael McGuire Drive will become a one-way street in the southbound direction starting Friday morning.

The detour will remain for the duration of the Metra station renovations, which are expected to last 10 months.

The change is intended to improve traffic flow in the area and allow for additional parking on the east side of Park, according to village of Lombard news release. John Burns Construction will stripe diagonal spaces on the east side of the street.

The reason for the one way is to eliminate the U-turns at the intersection of Michael McGuire Drive and Park Avenue, according to the release. Due to contractor staging, three spaces were to be lost on Park Avenue. Traffic can use McGuire Drive west of Park and Lincoln to head back east or north.
